The office of Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (CGPDTM) is the regulating authority with respect to Intellectual Property Regime in India. It administers the IP laws in India in order to create an environment of strong and vibrant IP system.
Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB), constituted on September 15, 2003, is empowered to hear and resolve the appeals against decisions, orders or directions of the registrar under CGPDTM. It has original jurisdiction to adjudicate. In 2017, the Copyright Board was taken over by IPAB and hence now all the copyright cases are adjudicated by IPAB.
