Courts on website

The website of eCourts Services, www.ecourts.gov.in, has introduced a data grid which displays the real time data of pending cases in India.

This model is similar to the National Judicial Data Grid, which was started to introduce transparency and accountability in the functioning of the courts particularly with regard to pending and disposed of cases. The website is used by the legal fraternity to stay updated on the day to day activities of the courts all over the Country.

This is a welcome move by the Department of Justice in its eCourts Mission Mode Project which was conceptualized as a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) based project. The initiative was started to make the legal proceedings ‘citizen-centric’ by introducing transparency.
